Marine Corps Knowledge Practice

The principle of camouflage centers around concealing personnel and equipment from detection. Among the Eight Principles of Camouflage, each principle serves a distinct role in enhancing stealth and misdirection in various operational environments while minimizing the risk of being spotted by the enemy.

Movement is vital because any sudden or excessive motion can attract attention and compromise a hidden position. Shadows play a critical role as they can either aid camouflage by blending figures into the background or reveal them when improperly positioned. The choice of color is essential, as it helps to mask objects with their surroundings and confuses the observer's perception.

Speed, however, is not one of the principles of camouflage. While moving quickly might allow a Marine to avoid detection in certain situations, it does not relate directly to the principles that govern effective camouflage techniques. This is why speed is distinguished from the core principles, which focus strictly on methods of concealment rather than the rate of movement.
